NEWS
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, having acceded to the throne on the 6 February 1952 when she was just 25 years old. To commemorate this anniversary, Stowmarket Town Council pledged up to £10,000 to support a new community project, event or initiative for the town. Local groups, businesses and charities submitted their ideas and a panel led by the Town Mayor shortlisted three proposals which were put to a public vote, with Volunteers of Stowmarket (Eco) being voted the winners.
The Volunteers of Stowmarket (Eco) project now welcomes local people of all ages to participate in a wide range of environmental activities and initiatives across the town – helping to create a cleaner and greener Stowmarket. Examples of their contributions to the town include; tree planting, enhancing/maintaining green spaces, litter picking, recycling initiatives and planting new flowers, seeds and bulbs.
As part of her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Her Majesty the Queen is encouraging people to enhance the local environment. With the Volunteers of Stowmarket (Eco) project now well underway it is an excellent way for Stowmarket to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.
