A halt to medicine Blister pack collections!

A halt to medicine Blister pack collections!

We are grateful to Superdrug for their insight and action in making recycling of Medicine blister packs possible.

However we have become victims of our own success.  With many large sacks full twice a month from Stowmarket, the Bury St Edmunds branch of Superdrug has said that they can no longer accept large quantities, only contributions from individual customers.

We are working to find a solution

(Of course, the real solution is to persuade pharmaceutical companies to review their packaging and opt for something less environmentally damaging.  At the recent elections, Suffolk returned an unheard of number of Green Party Councillors, and political decisions can be made which favour the environment over profits.  As an eco group we are looking at ideas to work with waste disposal authorities and to bring pressure to bear on pharmaceutical companies.)

Other ways to Recycle

Tesco and Co-op now have soft plastic recycling facilities outside their stores.

How can I reduce my plastic use?

  • Choose pet food in tin cans over plastic pouches.
  • Try Bamboo toothbrushes and toothpaste tablets
  • Use biodegradable pens.
  • Choose refills using “Choose Refills” on market or Bonitas on Tavern St.
  • Use reusable, washable cloths instead of plastic wet wipes.
  • Use a reusable water bottle and drinks container.
  • Use food wraps instead of clingfilm.
  • Use plastic free soluble cleaning sachets instead of buying cleaning products in plastic bottles.
  • Choose plastic free clothing not polyester…use a Guppy Bag or Coraball to help collect microfibres that shed from your clothes during washing.
